Rotary Barbecue Field Party

We have had a busy weekend. I think our family is going to sleep well tonight. (But knowing Wren, I’m not going to count on that.)

My dad is a proud Rotarian, and he invited my siblings and me (notice it’s “me” and not “I”. See this post) to a Rotary event hosted in a beautiful pasture and catered by my dad’s favorite barbecue place. We told him we wouldn’t miss it!

The weather was pretty wet the whole time we were there, but the girls had a wonderful time anyway. There was a bouncy house, and the girls wasted no time in bouncing the day away. We could barely get them to eat. Ruthie called it her castle and she was its queen. She also had a queenly voice that had us all in stitches. It sounded like a cross between Julia Child and Katharine Hepburn.

There is nothing quite like having a six year old ask you how old you are, and when you reply that you are thirty, seeing her eyes become as wide as saucers. “Wow,” she said. “It will be a loooong time before I’m thirty!” Not as long as you think, kid.

I want to remember these sweet curls forever.

Mom had fun showing off her littlest grandbaby. And she had the cutest one there, in my unbiased opinion.

The girls’ first lollipops= pure bliss. What I didn’t consider was that they would continually be running around with them in their mouths or dropping them in cow patties. Serves me right for being an overly indulgent mom. Although just between you and me, the looks on their faces made it so worth it.

Carry the 35 lb baby and everything we brought? No problem.

I hope your weekend was lovely.

Leave a comment! I love hearing from you.
