The Easter Outfits and Haps

Happy Easter, dear readers!! Death, where is thy sting?!

We did not go to the Easter Vigil this year, but instead opted for the ER at the nearby children’s hospital. In the rush to get up the stairs for baths/bed, Wren got knocked down and smashed her two front teeth on the stairs. After Scott finally managed to mop up the copious amounts of blood spurting out of her mouth, he determined that her teeth were messed up and an ER trip would be needed. So I threw on her shoes and mine, put a rag up against her mouth, and headed for the ER. We both arrived with blood stains all over our shirts, which I was hoping would expedite our wait a bit, but no such luck. It was determined that even though her two front teeth looked pushed back a good bit, they weren’t in any danger of falling out . . . . yet. Apparently, her teeth could die and fall out later. It would give her a roguish look, for sure. I’m sure she could pull it off. Anyway, we have to go to the dentist as soon as possible to see if her adult teeth sustained any damage. They also said that her heart issue complicates things a bit and put her on antibiotics just in case the blood loss causes an infection. Wren seems fine, but Scott and I are still pretty traumatized from the whole incident. I will spare you a picture of it, because quite frankly I can’t even look at those teeth without getting queasy.

Because everyone loves some awful outtakes.

All of the girls’ dresses are from here. I bought some last year to be the girls’ church apparel for Easter, and I fell in love with them as soon as they arrived. The girls looked so adorable in them last year, I had to make them a Bass family Easter tradition.

Wren grew out of hers, so I ordered one more dress for Easter this year. The tracking for the package when it shipped said that it was in “pre-shipment” for weeks. I finally decided to ask Jess, the shop owner, about it on Holy Thursday. By that point, I had resigned myself to the fact that Wren would just have to wear a different dress for Easter Sunday Mass. Then, Jess sent me an email saying that she had spent 40 minutes at the post office tracking down my dress and making sure it was overnighted to me on Good Friday. It arrived on Holy Saturday just in time and Dream Catcher Baby won a loyal customer in me for good. Thank you, Jess!

We spent the rest of the day relaxing and napping. I couldn’t have asked for a better Easter Sunday.  In the Catholic tradition, we celebrate Easter for fifty days! I’m going to make the ambitious attempt to keep the Easter spirit going in our family for that long. I hope you and yours had a joyous and blessed day! Thank you, as always, for stopping by. Here is a sweet Rhea face as a token of my appreciation.

Poor sweet girl! I knocked out adult teeth on Holy Saturday when I was in 5th grade. Praise God for the nice man (my guardian angel) who drove my mom and I to the ER and went back to find my missing teeth and put them in milk. My gum line is uneven and I had to root canals but they are still doing ok 18 years later. However, I know one day I’ll have to have them replaced. 🙁 Did she cut her frenulum (fold of skin between her upper lip and the gum)? That can cause a lot of blood. Prayers for you all!

She did cut her frenulum. There was SO much blood! And oh my gosh, your poor teeth! Scott had a tooth in his childhood that got injured and infected, and they pulled it and put in a fake tooth. You can’t tell at all!

Ok so my son fell and hit the back of his head which caused his front tooth to shift. Took him to the dentist the next day and she warned me that it would darken and we would have to monitor it for 3 months. It could heal or become infected which would damage his permanent tooth. She also told us absolutely no biting with the front tooth. Everything had to be cut up because it could cause further damage (really.. A 3 year old eating everything cut up, we did the best we could). About a week later his beautiful white tooth turned gray then brown and we went back three times in three months. At the last visit she determined that infection was setting in which was visible on the X-ray. She said that he needed a route canal and his tooth would remain that color so she would whiten it. We did the route canal and she put a white covering over his tooth, pretty much same material they use for fillings. It wasn’t perfect but it looked a lot better! Four days later, his tooth was brown again. Brought him back and she said he must have cracked the covering so she put another one on at no charge. Still advised not to use the tooth when eating. Three days after the second fix it was off again! I gave up… He bites his nails and I am sure that’s what is causing it to crack off. So I may take him back once more the day before my sister in law gets married but otherwise his tooth will be brown until it falls out! So stressful lol good luck with Wren and keep us updated.

Oh my gosh how traumatizing! So our dentist knows we pay everything out of pocket, so he said if it becomes discolored, it is probably that the nerve was affected, but he advised we just take her in so he could check for infection, but not do anything about it. I figure if that happens she could live with discoloration for a few years until they fall out. I still hope it doesn’t happen, though, because I’ll just feel awful about it all over again every time I see it! But he said that the adult teeth were fine, thank goodness. He said these types of injuries with children happen all the time.

Well even with dental insurance it cost us a lot of money. I was upset! Thank goodness I have an Aflac accident policy. If you don’t have one I’d advise you to get one lol I’ve filed three different claims on my son in three months and it paid well! Even for the tooth.

Oh yeah? That is a good idea! I will look into that, thank you!

Our wellness visits are completely covered, and that is literally the only perk of our crappy health insurance 😂😂😂

Mine are too but Aflac still pays! They really are awesome about paying no matter if you owe or not.

My son was in first grade and had his front teeth actually knocked all the way out and we took him to the dentist and they xrayed his mouth to see if the permanent teeth were ok or not and his were fine. So, I am sure her teeth being that she is younger than he was will be ok too. The dentist told us that his permanent teeth were still way up there. so, it took a while for his new ones to come in. She will be ok. but those mouth or head injuries sure can bleed can’t they!! Happy Easter to you all from us all!!! hehehehehe 50 days huh?? Might have to explain that one. How many days are between fat tuesday and Easter?

Thank you, Beverley! We just went to the dentist today and that is just what he told us. They did an X Ray and her adult teeth look fine. Phew! He said it is highly unlikely her teeth will die and need to come out. He even thinks that her tooth will make its way back to where it was. Yeah, crazy, huh? Lent is only 40 days and Eastertide is 10 days more! I guess the resurrection is kind of a big deal, ha!

I am so glad she is fine!! Yeah I was not raised Catholic so I had never heard of the extra 10 days. That is kinda cool though!!! Maybe it is because didn’t Christ stay on Earth for 10 days after he arose, then he went to heaven.?

You made me curious, so I looked it up. So the Easter season lasts until Pentecost, which is 50 days apparently. Jesus was on Earth for 40 days after his resurrection, and then Pentecost happened 10 days after his Ascension. So I don’t know if that answers our question about why the 50 days, other than it is the period of time from the Resurrection to Pentecost? So interesting, I’m glad you asked all these questions!
