About

Hello! I’m a wife and mother of 5 girls. Lover of great literature (it tends to be stuff written prior to 1960) and children’s fashion (not that I am any good at styling my kids. I just love looking at children’s fashion.)  (I overuse parentheses.) Cuban Catholic living in Atlanta, Georgia.

Join the madness and subscribe! (It’s the button on the bar to the right.) We can sip our virtual coffee together and swap war stories. Glad to have you here.

This is Rhea, our little spitfire.

Wren, who keeps us all smiling and laughing.

Rose, who is very earnest and nurturing. She feels very deeply about all the things.

Ruth, our eldest who is a force of nature.

And last but certainly not least, our youngest girl, Regina. Regina was born with Down syndrome and a severe heart defect that required open heart surgery at the tender age of five months old.

    Hi Sylvia!

I’ve been a reader of yours since I came across your viral post “To the lady ashamed of being pregnant with her fourth” and have so enjoyed silently following your mommy adventures. I myself am a mother to five children 7 and under, so much of what you write about is very, very relatable to my own life :). It’s obvious from your writing that you are a woman of faith, as am I. The Lord has been tugging at my heart the last few months telling me to start writing something to support and uplift other mothers. I finally relented to his whisperings and started a little blog called “The Mom Salute.” The name of the blog comes from an experience I had when a stranger and fellow mother literally saluted me at a low parenting moment in the pediatrician’s parking lot.

I’d like for the blog to recognize and validate the spectrum of experiences women have as mothers so I’m hoping to have a weekly guest post called “Motherhood from where I stand.” I’m sure you are plenty busy with your four little ones, but I was wondering if you might be willing to write a post for my humble blog. I adore your writing and would be so honored if you did. I’d leave the topic up to you- whatever thoughts you’d like to share about motherhood. Just to give you an idea, other mothers I’ve asked include a fellow mother of many small kids, a mom who is a university professor and researcher, a mom to whom motherhood didn’t come naturally, and a single woman without children.

You can contact me at momsalute@gmail.com if that’s something you’d be interested in and willing to do. Either way, thanks for blogging about your family and showing a real and heartfelt glimpse into the life of a busy mother. It’s so nice to know we’re not alone on this journey. Thank you so much!
