Weekend Happenings

Is it just me, or do weekends fly by? You wait all week for the weekend, and then when it is finally here, you blink and it’s Sunday night again. Sigh.

My mom and I took the girls to Pike’s Nursery on Friday. I figured the girls would love seeing all the flowers, butterflies, bees, and birds. It did not disappoint.

We also had a baby bird friend on our cart that we thought might accompany us the whole trip, but it balked when Rosie decided to cup it in her hands. Toddlers aren’t known for their reserve when it comes to touching small animals.

I don’t know what Rose was expecting to find in those pots, but she peeked in every one. Presumably she did not find it, whatever it was. Maybe next time.

We had dinner at my mom’s that evening, where my sister proceeded to hedge trim my eyebrows for a few hours. Apparently, it was long overdue. Ruth called the tweezers “squeezers,” and was desperate to lend a helping hand. She kept sneaking into my sister’s lap and trying to grab them without my sister noticing.

We are trying to squeeze every last drop out of summer, so we spent Saturday at my Abuela’s pool. I have many fond memories of spending all of my summers there when we were kids. Pretty surreal to be taking my kids there now.

Always the little helper, Ruth was dying to help my Abuelo skim the pool. This kid needs a day job.

The kids watched Daddy do a canon ball off the diving board and cheered like they were at Sea World. They immediately wanted to try out the diving board themselves, but reconsidered once they actually got on there. It was high! And wobbled! Forget it. Daddy is just an adrenaline junkie.

When Ruthie started pretending to be Sleeping Beauty, we knew it was time to go home for naps.

After mass and lunch with my parents on Sunday, here we were! Sunday evening again. We took the girls outside to expend some energy before bedtime. We are tired of listening to them sing and bang around in their cribs for hours after we put them to bed. I am listening to it as I type, so I guess we were thwarted in our endeavor. Sigh. Any ideas?

I hope your weekend was lovely.

… maybe it is time for them to skip their afternoon naps? If our daughter (will be three in two weeks) falls asleep in the afternoon she stays up that day until way past 9p.m. resulting in being cranky and overtired the whole next day.
If that’s the case, I wish you a hell lot of inner strength – you might use it all up. Don’t want to freak you out, but our eldest made us hellish 6 months, cause he didn’t want to fall asleep in the afternoons but got cranky and aggressive every day at 5p.m. until he finally fell asleep at the usual bedtime (around 7.30p.m.). Sometimes he fell asleep at 6p.m. with his face falling into his dinnerplate but that was rare. same with our daughter… after almost 9 months it looks like we finally reached the point that she’ll stay up in a good mood AND falls asleep at bedtime…
Right along with their dad, by the way. He has to go to bed with them and stay with them until they fall asleep (most days), cause otherwise they just keep on getting up time and time again ending in screaming at 10p.m.

Oh Lord, if I have to decide between losing that quiet time during their afternoon nap and listening to them bang around for a few hours at night, I choose a later bed time! LOL. I depend on that nap time!

I’m sitting here reading this while my 9 month old pulls my hair. She is normally sleeping at 7:30. Don’t know what went wrong tonight. And my two year old just fell asleep after the usual 45 minute cry. It’s not just you!! Love the pictures of all the adventures.
