I Might Have a Bonnet Problem

You already knew this, I’m sure.

Rhea is 11 months old! Cue the obligatory wailing and gnashing of teeth. She has almost completely weaned herself, which is leading to actual wailing and gnashing of teeth. On my part. I had this beautiful vision in my head of breastfeeding a plump toddler, Cassatt painting-style, and my hopes have been dashed. Well, you know what they say: we make plans and our toddlers laugh. Does anyone say that? I know I do.

Anyway, I’m going to do something different for her 11 month post. Instead of telling you all of her milestones (for example, she is pulling up to stand, and can say “ball” and shake her head for “no” and nod her head for “yes”, yada yada yada), I’m going to spare you all of those boring details and launch into a boring post of all of the bonnets she has worn throughout her 11 short months outside the womb. My darling friend Sarah suggested it. She lives in Australia, has seven gorgeous blonde children, and definitely needs a blog. I need another way to stalk her. Bring on the bonnets!

The day we brought her home from the hospital. I couldn’t wait to put that first bonnet on her!

That smirk that says, “Brace yourself, I’m about to develop some very strong opinions about things!”

Sarah’s youngest, Peter, is Rhea’s age and I have been plotting their arranged marriage like a psycho in jest. I would totally go visit them and the grandbabies on the beach in Australia, though. Or whatever exotic place they end up.

Sarah was curious as to whether boys can rock a bonnet as well, and my humble opinion is a resounding yes! I submit for your consideration: Exhibits ABand C.  Perfect for protecting little heads from the sun during those hot summer months (or in Sarah’s case, keeping them warm in the winter!)

It has always boggled my mind that Australians celebrate Christmas in the dead of the summer. About 50% of the popular Christmas songs would not apply. What was this post about again?

Oh, yes! Rhea! We are leaving her with my parents overnight for the first time for a long weekend while Scott and I have a romantic getaway/wedding to attend in Chicago. I am hoping against hope she will still want to nurse when we get back. If you have any places we must see or places to go eat in Chicago, please let me know!

Don’t give up hope yet! I thought Will was weaning himself at 11 months and then he firmly recommitted himself to the boob until I weaned him when he was 21 months. (And yesterday he said, “Mommy, I needa do some nursing on that nurser. But Bridgie is a piggy and she GOBBLED up all my nursing!”)

I’m totally sure that boys can ROCK a bonnet. And DO NOT tell me that this is in fact a french site and bonnet is the french word for hat & cap. I DO KNOW that. And I deliberately ignore it right now. 😛
My kids all hated the bow under their chins, so no bonnet wearing kids in this household. But they love their hats and their caps and I need to get my ass in gear because I think a couple heads are too big for last year’s summer hats.

Hope you enjoyed your free weekend!!
    XOXO

oh wait, I had the links from this list, which I just finished scrolling through. Aren’t they adorable?
Okay, granted,m some are creepy or strange and others downright hilarious and / or unwearable (i laughed so hard at the sight of the read bearded viking, but honestly I don’t think this is in any way comfortable.)

He will grow into it soon enough, I’m sure. In the meantime, it sure looks precious on Frank! I loved putting Rhea’s bonnets on Wren, when she would permit me (you know, Frank’s future wife😂😂.)
